title: diversity creates beauty
culture is the essence of a nation’s strength, so how to develop our culture and treat oversea culture is an important issue. there are different thinking and actions in the world. some nations reject foreign culture. meanwhile, there are some nations imitate others. of course, there are countries keep the good traditional culture as a basic and then adopt others’ strengths, such as china, japan. i hold the idea that we should make cultural diversity become mainstream in the future world and avoid cultural integration at the same time.
to date, how to develop its own culture has never been stopped thinking. every nation has its own assumption, action and reform. keep cultural diversity is successful and effective. cite china, tang dynasty enjoys its own booming economy and colorful culture. search for its origin and we are easy to find that tang dynasty learn oversea advanced culture at the basic of its own accessible culture. as for our present china, the strength is obviously clear. once we take up “reform and open” policy, the situation and status in international society change greatly. our life standard of course has been raised sharply. keep cultural diversity contributes much to the development of china. qing dynasty made the strength of china fall behind advanced countries for several tens years. there is no wonder for it to experience this result if you have understood something of chinese history. in qing dynasty, its emperor operated cultural tyrancy(文化专制主义). that is to say, it stuck to cultural integration inside of our country.
after hearing the above examples, you may say that culture seems to have nothing to do with economy and how you can prove diversity creates beauty and cultural integration blocks development. maybe you are right, but don’t forget that culture is soul and spirit for a nation. it provides direction and dynamic power for its people to create bright future. as an old saying puts, “idea comes before action.”
in this paragraph, i want to analyse the inner connection between cultural diversity and how it work wonder-beauty. first, personality distinguishes our special individual and makes our world colorful. it’s the same to cultural diversity. lack of diversity, vibrant society would disappear. second, everything has more than one angle. one person cannot find all angles and research all of them successful. in the multicultural society, we can learn others’ fruit and others learn our extra gains. this can enrich our culture and make it constant and effective development.
for culture development in china, i think we should keep our root-fine traditional culture and we should also adopt others’ strength points. go on constant reform of culture to make sure that it adapts to present situation and can ensure the constant development of our nation.
i wish what i’m speaking can count a little.
第二篇:21世纪杯全国大学生英语演讲稿
(96年“21世纪杯全国大学生英语演讲比赛”二等奖获得者,北京外国语大学 徐义成)
facing this audience on the stage, i have the exciting feeling of participating in the march of history, for what we are facing today is more than a mere competition or contest. it is an assembly of some of china's most talented and motivated people, representatives of a younger generation that are preparing themselves for the coming of a new century.
i'm grateful that i've been given this opportunity, at such a historic moment, to stand here as a spokesman of my generation and to take a serious look back at the past 15 years, a crucial period for every one of us and for this nation as well.
though it is only within my power to tell about my personal experience, and only a tiny fragment of it at that, it still represents, i believe, the root of a spirit which has been essential to me and to all the people bred by the past 15 years.
in my elementary years, there was a little girl in the class who worked very hard but somehow could never do satisfactorily in her lessons.
the teacher asked me to help her, and it was obvious that she expected a lot from me. but as a young boy, restless, thoughtless, i always tried to evade her so as to get more time to enjoy myself.
one day before the final exam, she came up to me and said, "could you please explain this to me? i want very much to do better this time. " i started explaining, and finished in a hurry. pretending not to notice her still confused eyes, i ran off quickly. nat surprisingly, she again did very badly in the exam. and two months later, at the beginning of the new semester, word came of her death of blood cancer. no one ever knew about the little task i failed to fulfill, but i couldn't forgive myself. i simply couldn't forget her eyes, which seem to be asking, "why didn't you do a little more to help me, when it was so easy for you? why didn't you understand a little better the trust placed in you, so that i would not have to leave this world in such pain and regret?"
i was about eight or nine years old at that time, but in a way it was the very starting point of my life, for i began to understand the word "responsibility" and to learn to always do my duties faithfully and devotedly, for the implications of that sacred word has dawned on me: the mutual need and trust of people, the co-operation and inter-reliance which are the very foundation of human society.
later in my life, i continued to experience many failures. but never again did i feel that regret which struck me at the death of the girl, for it makes my heart satisfied to think that i have always done everything in my power to fulfill my responsibilities as best i can.
as i grew up, changed and improved by this incident and many other similar ones, i began to perceive the changes taking place around me and to find that society, in a way, was in its formative years like myself. new buildings, new commodities and new fashions appear every day.
new ideas, new information, new technologies. people can talk with each other from any corner of the earth in a matter of seconds. society is becoming more competitive.
words like individuality and creativity are getting more emphasis and more people are rewarded for their hard work and efforts. such is the era in which this generation ,grows and matures.
such is the era in which this generation will take over the nation from our fathers and learn to run it. yet in the meantime, many problems still exist.
we learn that crimes take place in broad daylight with crowds of people looking on and not assisting. we hear that there are still about 1 million children in this country who can't even afford to go to elementary schools while enormous sums of money are being squandered away on dinner parties and luxury cars.
we buy shoddy medicines, or merely worthless junk in the name of medicines, that aggravate, rather than alleviate our diseases since money, many people believe, is the most important thing in the world that must be made, even at the expense of morality and responsibility.
such an era, therefore, determines that we are a generation with a keener sense of competition and efficiency and a greater readiness to think critically and act creatively.
such an era, furthermore, demands, that we are a generation with a clear perception of our historical responsibility and an aggressive will to take action and solve the problems. history has long been preparing these qualities in this generation and it is now calling us forward to give testimony to our patriotism and heroism towards this nation and all humanity.
standing here now, i think of the past 15 years of my life as an ordinary student. probably i'll be an ordinary man for the rest of my life. but this doesn't discourage me any, for i know that with my sense of responsibility and devoted efforts to always strive, for the best, it's going to be a meaningful and worthwhile life that i will be living.
standing here now, i think of the past 15 years of this nation, which has achieved greatness that inspired millions of people of my age, most of whom will not attain fame or prestige and only a few of whom will be remembered by posterity. but that doesn't discourage us any, because we know that the world watches, the world listens, the world is waiting to see where this nation will be heading in a time of rich opportunities and fierce competition.
i can't ever forget that little girl in my class who couldn't had the same opportunities as any of us here to enjoy a wonderful life today and a hopeful world tomorrow.
it is the sacred responsibility of this generation to face up to the challenges of the new century and to devote our sweat and blood, our wisdom and passion, to the historic cause of making this nation a greater and happier land for every one of us.
we are not going to evade that responsibility. we are going to let people down. and people, far and near, will hear of us. frost will be brought to their backbones and tears to their eyes when our stories are told and retold, so let us go forth, my fellow members of this luckily chosen generation, and meet the new century in victory and glory.

discover yourself
ever since the accelerated development of human civilization, perpetual scientific discoveries of nature had accompanied mankind all along the journey. it was by discovering the world around us that human beings have been able to lead a more sophisticated life. however, as g.k. chesterton once said, “one may understand the cosmos, but never the ego; the self is more distant than any star.” similarly, our life is a journey of unrelenting efforts to discover more of ourselves.
when i was 6 i constantly pictured myself as an elegant and skilled pianist rendering chopin’s nocturne beautifully on the stage, receiving warm applause after my
performance. as i furthered my piano lessons, it was hard to be oblivious of my non-gifted skills. sometimes i couldn’t help but have this feeling of despair when i woke up to the reality and discovered that my goal was unrealistic. brutal but real, it was the first time i had discovered that i couldn’t have it all.
when i was 12 i thought the coolest job in the entire universe was to be a surgeon. i spent hours and hours watching the drama “grey’s anatomy”, and couldn’t help falling in love with the kind of life those doctors lead on the screen. i was utterly mesmerized by the scalpel and all those fancy medical terms they use. however, i stopped dreaming about being a surgeon when i discovered that it was the idea of being a surgeon that appealed to me, not what it truly was. therefore, the dream ended and i discovered some more about myself.
this year i turned 16, i could proudly say i do not dream to be but ascertain to pursue being a lawyer in the future. since junior high school i was always awarded the “most eloquent debater” in every single debate i participated in. i cannot only think logically but also deliver my thoughts promptly. my huge interest in philosophy also adds to my
reasoning whenever i tried to argue on something equivocal. being aware of the obstacles and hardships on the way to becoming a great lawyer never panics me, for the simple reason that i have this faith and passion in what i am aspiring after.
g.k. chesterton was absolutely correct, the most complicated part of comprehending the world is the study of the somehow smaller world—ourselves. i subsequently realized that growing up is the process of discovering ourselves; we get to know what we truly are, and become who we dream to be. as we shape ourselves, and as we shape our lives, we gradually become more aware of our limits and potentials and consequently learn to
adjust to what’s out there. and by that, ladies and gentleman, i’m proud to say that i’ve discovered part of myself, still discovering today standing on this stage, and hopefully a lot more in the future. i will always keep this embedded into my heart that things do not change, we do.
第四篇:曹丰21世纪英语演讲比赛演讲稿
清华大学曹丰21世纪英语演讲比赛演讲稿 our future: a battle between dreams and reality
good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen: when i was in the primary school, i have a dream. i want to invent a device which could bring you from one place to another in no time at all. when i was in the secondary school, my dream was to study in my ideal university. and when eventually i got into the university, my dream was to graduate. how pathetic! when we grow up, we dream less and become more realistic. why? why do we have to change our dreams, so ,so in order to let it be “fulfilled”? why do we have to surrender to the so –called “reality”? what is the reality actually?
ladies and gentlemen, the reality is not real. it is a barrier keeping us from all the possible fantasies. flying, for example, had been a dream to mankind for thousands of
years. a hundred years ago, “man could not fly” was still regarded as the “reality”. now if that was really the reality, what did the wright brothers do? how did some of you get to macao? only when we believe that the reality
is not real can we soar with our dreams.people say that our future is a battle between the reality and our dreams. and if, unfortunately, mr. reality wins this war, then i see no future of mankind at all. aids will never be curable as this is the reality; people living in the undeveloped countries will suffer form starvation forever as this is the reality; disputes among different countries would never be settled as this misunderstandings and intolerance is the reality.
ladies and gentlemen, how many of you
have a dream of being able to make a lot of money? please raise your hands. oh, quite a number of you! actually, ladies and gentlemen, this is not a dream, but a task. every one of us
has to make a living, right? anyway i hope your task will be accomplishes. how many of you think that you have already fulfilled your dream and that you don’t dream anymore? dear adjudicators, what do you think?
c.s. lewis once said, “you are never too old to dream a new dream.” so for our future, please and be unrealistic. now that i am a university student my goal is to graduate with excellences. but at the same time, i have a dream deeply rooted in our future. one day, people living in the areas now sweltering with the horror of wars will be able to sit with their families and enjoy their every moment. one day, people from the rich countries are willing to share what they have with those from the poor countries. and those from the poor countries will eventually be able to make their own happy living themselves. one day, different cultures in this age of coexist with tolerance and the unfriendly confrontations
among them will be eliminated. one day, the globe will share the dream with me. and we will all contribute to making our dream come true. one day, our dream will defeat the reality! thank you very much.
